Lot of 2: Handbook of Alaska 1914/The Lure of Alaska 1939 Vintage HC

This set includes two captivating vintage hardcover books. First, 'Handbook of Alaska' by Major-General A. W. Greely, published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1914 as a new edition. Second, 'The Lure of Alaska' by Harry A. Franck, published by J. B. Lippincott Company in 1939 with an unstated edition. The books are in good condition. However, due to deckled edges, the pages may rip easily. There is some staining on the covers. A bookplate and markings from a previous owner can be found on the front pastedown and free - endpaper. The text block and pages have a light tan from age, but readability is not affected. 'The Lure' has a loose binding, while 'Handbook' has a tight one.

These vintage books are great for reading and also as collectibles. When reading, be gentle with the pages because of the deckled edges that can make them rip easily. Don't try to force the pages open if they seem stuck. To keep the books in good shape, store them in a dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent further tanning of the pages. If you notice the loose binding of 'The Lure' getting worse, you can take it to a professional bookbinder for repair. Handle the covers with care to avoid adding more stains. And when you're done with them, place them back on the shelf upright to maintain their form.
