Product Description

This is a rare 1866 antique leather book titled 'The American Conflict: A History of the Great Rebellion in the United States of America, 1860 - 65'. Authored by Horace Greeley and published by O.D. Case & Company, it delves into the causes, incidents, and results of the rebellion, especially highlighting its moral and political aspects and the American view on human slavery from 1776 to the end of the Union war. The book is in poor condition. The cover shows age - appropriate damage like staining, soiling, tears, shelf - wear, scuffing, a library stamp, and denting. The spine cover is coming unattached and the front cover is loose. The book is slightly cocked. The text block is discolored and has some faded coloration. The free - endpapers and pastedowns are soiled, stained, and foxed, with a library punch - card book plate on the back pastedown. The pages are yellowed, rippled, with occasional foxing, staining, and transference stains from illustrations. Pages 422 - 423 have stains from past ephemera, but they are intact and legible. The bindings are intact and visible.

This antique book is a great piece for history enthusiasts. When handling it, use clean hands to avoid further soiling the pages. Since it's in poor condition, be gentle when opening and closing to prevent any more damage to the loose covers or spine. Store it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight to prevent the pages from yellowing further. Don't try to remove any of the stains or marks as it could cause more harm. Enjoy reading it but be careful not to tear the fragile pages.
